A rising wheelchair basketball star from Yorkshire has become the youngest player to reach the final selection of the Great Britain’s men’s squad ahead of 2010 World Championships to be held in July in Birmingham.
16-year-old Harry Brown, who plays in the 1st and 2nd junior division for the SSB Sheffield Steelers Wheelchair Basketball Club, will attend the final selection camp amongst the 21 other players selected at Stoke Mandeville from March 30 to April 3.
The talented sporting youngster, from Halifax, trains at the Northern General Hospital sports hall with SSB Sheffield Steelers’ head coach and general manager of England Institute of Sport, Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), Paul Hudson, who has high hopes for Harry.
Paul said: “This is a fantastic first time experience for Harry and he has the potential to be one of the world’s best players.
“We welcome players of all different abilities and recognise that youngsters of Harry’s age still need to have fun as well as focusing on being the best they can be. We have high hopes for Harry and are optimistic that he will go on to play in the London 2012 Para Olympics.”
The team’s next game is against opponents to be confirmed at EIS Sheffield on April 5, and is a livener to the Sheffield Sharks’ battle with the Essex Pirates.
