  • 0FgQOmXF

Sheffield’s sporting stars have teamed up with personalities from the BBC for a special Celebrity Heptathlon.

Golden girl Jess Ennis and presenters from Look North and Radio Sheffield have signed up to be a part of the BBC Yorkshire Sport Relief Heptathlon, which takes place on Sunday, March 21st at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport (EIS Sheffield).

It will feature three teams of six celebrities battling it out to raise money, which will be used to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people, both at home and across the world’s poorest countries.

The teams will be captained by BBC Look North’s Harry Gration, weatherman Paul Hudson and sports presenter Tanya Arnold.

EIS Sheffield-based Jess, the BBC’s Ambassador for Sport Relief in Yorkshire, will be the event summariser.

She will be joined by skeleton bob Olympians Kristan Bromley and Shelly Rudman who recently competed at the games in Vancouver, EIS Sheffield table tennis star Paul Drinkhall and boxing legend Herol ‘Bomber’ Graham who are all taking part.

Paul Hudson, general manager of EIS Sheffield said: “We are delighted to host this event and we are even happier that Jess has agreed to get involved. Hopefully loads of people will come down to support the celebrities and we’ll raise lots of money for Sport Relief.”

The celebrities will compete over the full seven heptathlon disciplines: sprint hurdles, 200 metres, 60 metres, long jump, high jump, javelin and relay.

Radio Sheffield’s Toby Foster will be the event’s host on the day, whilst sports editor at the station Paul Walker will be the commentator. Look North’s Christa Ackroyd will also be trackside reporting on the action.

Toby Foster said: “I’m very much looking forward to the event, it should be great fun and it’s for a worthy cause. I’m just glad I’m hosting the event and not competing!”

Tickets are on sale now for £8 or £6 for children and OAPs. They can be purchased by ringing 0114 2565656. Doors open at 2pm and the events kick off at 3pm.
