The English Institute of Sport - Sheffield (EIS Sheffield) is warming up to host two prestigious futsal cup competitions over the upcoming weeks.

EIS Sheffield, which is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), has staged the FA Futsal Cup Finals every year since 2004.

First up is the the FA Youth Futsal Festival, taking place from June 27 - 28.

Junior players from across the country will descend on EIS Sheffield for a full weekend of futsal with boys and girls teams competing in Under 10, 12, 14, 16 age categories.

The FA Cup will also make an appearance at EIS Sheffield during the weekend.

The following weekend sees the return of  the FA Futsal Cup event, which returns to EIS Sheffield for the fifth year from July 3 - 5, seeing the best 16 men's and women's teams from across the country compete for the prestigious title and a qualifying place in the UEFA Futsal Cup.

Sheffield and Hallamshire FC secured their place in the competition after beating local rivals Sheffield FC 8-6 at SIV's Hillsborough Leisure Centre.

Paul Hudson, general manager of EIS Sheffield, said: "This is great opportunity for local people to see some of the best futsal players in the country in action right on their doorstep.

"EIS Sheffield is one of the UK's top futsal venues, which is why we have been selected to host this competition for the last five years. The small-sided games are fast paced and exciting and the technique, movement, tactical awareness and fitness of the players is top class."

The name ‘futsal' combines the Spanish words for ‘Hall' - Sala and ‘Football' - Futbol into futsal. It is a five-a-side game, played with hockey sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce.

Futsal is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA with World and European Championships for club and National Teams.
