EIS Sheffield sports science experts Sport Relief Challenge

Sheffield based English Institute of Sport (EIS) Strength and Conditioning Coach David Parker, will join fellow EIS sport science experts from around the country and a host of guests, including a number of Britain’s top athletes, for a ‘Strength Marathon’ in aid of Sport Relief.

As well as some of the country’s leading sport science expertise from the EIS, a host of elite athletes who train at the EIS High Performance Centre at the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, Buckinghamshire, will be taking on the weighty challenge on Saturday, March 20.

At team of ten will aim to lift a million kilos over eight hours with the ‘10th Man’ spot seeing a rotation of elite athletes, support staff and guests being part of the weight bearing line-up, equating to 100,000kg per team member. The lift will be performed using the dead-lift, with the total weight roughly the same as four Boeing 747 planes!

“We are ready and raring to go for Sport Relief”, said EIS Strength and Conditioning Coach Alex Wolf, who works with the Olympic rowing squads who train at the EIS High Performance Gym at Bisham Abbey.

“Working with the country’s leading athletes means we are all used to pushing for performance and we hope that we can reach the million kilos target whist raising money for such a great cause.

“The challenge will prove physically demanding as we will all be putting our strength and endurance to the test.”

The line up includes EIS Strength and Conditioning Coaches Alex Wolf, Neil Lewis and David Parker, who works at the EIS Sheffield and rehabilitation scientist Ben Rosenblatt. The team will also be joined by Jared Deacon, Pete McKnight, Huw Jones, Laurence Caird and Will Brooks.

Athletes and guests joining the team for the challenge will be unveiled over the coming weeks.
