| World Snooker Academy Welcomes New Resident Players |
Thailand’s snooker legend James Wattana is one of eight new players that have joined the
World
Snooker
Academy
in
Sheffield
.
The three-times ranking event champion and former world number three has become a resident professional at the Academy, which is based inside the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EISS).
Wattana is joined at the state-of-the-art venue by fellow countrymen Supoj Saenla, who is the current Asian champion, and Issara Kachiawong.
Chinese youngsters Liu Song, Tian Peng Fei, Liang Wen Bo, Liu Chuang and Xiao Guo Dong have also become resident players in
Sheffield
.
They will be hoping to emulate the success of Chinese snooker sensation Ding Junhui who has risen to ninth in the world rankings since adopting the World Snooker Academy as his training base last year.
Keith Warren, Academy Director at the
World
Snooker
Academy
, said: “We are delighted to welcome the new players to
Sheffield
and hope our first class facilities will provide them with platform for success on the snooker circuit.
“James Wattana is an incredibly experienced professional and will act as a tremendous role model for our up and coming players, while the youngsters who have also moved to
Sheffield
possess great potential and will be the next generation of snooker stars.”
The World Snooker Academy, which was opened by the Earl and Countess of Wessex last year, provides training facilities for new and existing talent and acts as a centre of excellence for grassroots snooker.
Lorenzo Clark, from Sheffield International Venues, which manages the EISS, said: “It is an honour to welcome the new snooker players to the EISS and a real coup to attract high profile players such as James Wattana to the city. The
World
Snooker
Academy
is a fantastic facility that will provide the players with a state-of-the-art training base and we hope they can use the venue as a spring board for many years of success within the sport.”
